Real Madrid came back from down 19 points to beat archrival Barcelona 88 – 83 in the final of the 2021 ACB Supercup and win the first title of the season in Spain. The Blancos registered the biggest comeback in the history of the competition to claim the trophy for fourth straight year and 29th overall.
Sergio Llull scored a game-high 24 points in less than 20 minutes and was named tournament MVP. The Real Madrid star had an emotional reaction after the end of the game due to the game being held in the same arena in which he suffered an ACL rupture in 2017.
Real Madrid kept Barcelona to four points in the last six and a half minutes of the game, making its final push towards victory with a 12-2 run that was capped with a 3-pointer by Nigel Williams-Goss for the 81 – 81. Guerschon Yabusele put Real up with two free throws and Brandon Davies tied the game at 83.
Vincent Poirier (16 points, 11 rebounds) went 2-2 from the line and Carlos Alocen (11 points) added a free throw of his own for the 86 – 83 after a missed jumper by Davies. The latter attempted a tough 3-pointer in the final seconds to tie the game but he was off target.
Cory Higgins finished with 16 points, Davies dropped 13 points and Nikola Mirotic had 12 points plus five rebounds for Barcelona that last won the Supercup in 2015.
Barca went up 63 – 44 halfway through the third period after entering the second half with a 17 – 2 run. Real cut the deficit to nine with Llull scoring eight points in the last five minutes of the third period before proceeding to completely turn the game around in the last stretch.
